My DH has been on Rytary since June of 2015. Prior to that he was taking 22-24 Sinemet 25/100 mg each day & 2 - 50/200 mg Sinemet each evening. He had a complicated schedule taking 1 or 2 pills at 1 or 1 1/2 hr. intervals all day long. My DH was taken off of Mirapex due to hypersexuality and the MDS diagnosed him with Dopomine Dysregulation Syndrome (meaning that he was addicted to the Sinemet). My DH has such fluctuations with mobility and thinking. Our hope was that this would even out, but it hasn't really happened. My DH tried it for a week and didn't like it, because it takes longer to take affect. But the MDS really wanted him to give it another try, so they increased the dosage, and he tryed it again. He still couldn't get out of bed until about 11:00 am. They kept increasing the dose, but when it finally kicked in, he was up until midnight or 1:00 am and wanting to do all kinds of crazy projects like wash the sidewalk with bleach at midnight, and he got dyskinesia. We did like the fact that he didn't need pills every hr. or 1 1/2 hr like before, so I called the MDS and asked what dosage they thought was appropriate. I slowly weaned DH back down to that dose and kept it there, and he is still at that dose today. All of this took about 3 months. The Sinemet used to make him feel that he had to be up and moving right now. The Rytary doesn't make him feel so compelled to do that, so my DH does like the Rytary now. I give him his Rytary (along with other morning pills) at 5:00 am because it takes longer to take affect. I go back to bed and we get up at about 7:30 am. I also set the alarm and get up at 1:00 am to give him Rytary (along with pain med & anti-anxiety med), because my DH gets so stiff over night. So he takes Rytary at 5:00 am, 9:00 am, 1:00 pm, 5:00 pm then 2 - 50/200 ER Sinemet at 7:00 pm and the Rytary again at 1:00 am. But this schedule is at least better than the Sinemet.
