What does your neuro suggest for vertigo? Carl had it when first diagnosed, but not again til yesterday! He is on the floor as I type, trying out a “half head stand” we found online! Will let you know if it works. |

Mom's never been diagnosed with vertigo as such. But she has dizzy spells and orthostatic hypotension. OH is common in Parkinson's--the blood pressure drops upon standing, and within 3 minutes they can faint. The neuro suggested we increase her salt, and eliminated certain medications that can make it worse. (The neuro also said medications exist to increase blood pressure, but he didn't want to add any more meds if he didn't have to.) I also bought her some salt tablets (used for firefighters and other jobs where sweating is a problem). I wouldn't increase salt or anything before consulting your neuro, though, as you don't want to raise blood pressure if that's not what it is. |

Thanks for responding, but we literally JUST saw his neuro and had his BP tested twice. It doesn’t appear to be blood pressure related. We’ll watch it and hope it isn’t vertigo. |

Wow Jane, it could be any number of things. You posted about there is a marked difference in Carl's blood pressure sitting and standing. also around Christmas you stated he was in the kitchen swaying badly, I'm wondering if the swaying is his body reacting to dizziness? There are warnings on just about all our medicines may cause dizziness. How about eye tremors? Does Carl have them if so maybe it is the brain receiving the sideways movement of eye and carrying the movement to complete rotation of vision? Just tossing out could be ideas. How about if he rotates his head quickly to the side does that make him dizzy or upset his sense of balance? I don't know but just stuff to consider. Keep us posted with what you "guys" come up with. |

Jane, has anyone tried the Eppley maneuver? If it works for him, it's a very quick and simple fix. Might be worth a try. https://www.webmd.com/brain/liberatory-maneuvers-for-vertigo If you checked for BP issues, it might be his inner ear. Happens to a lot of us as we age. Not PD related. |

Thank you for responding, Al and Michelle. I will look at that website. He isn’t as bad today, but had a difficult spell over the weekend. Wish it had happened before he saw the neuro Friday! He says he has been trying various ways to make it lessen, but so far only the “headstand” thing has helped! We’ll try anything! Thanks! Will let you know. |
