Have no idea why...maybe I just needed a break!

We are doing well. Have had the weirdest things happen lately...Our car was backed into on Friday...MAJOR damage! Totally the other driver's fault, and a witness to it all confirmed it, so now we are dealing with all the hassle involved! Go figure!

We were on our way to an attorney for estate planning! We made it three hours later.

Was an interesting afternoon at the attorney. He advised a will, trust (we have three adult children and two grandkids), powers of attorney, and new health care POA....One reason I came back on....
His advice was strong...We should have done this much earlier, of course...

BUT, he was glad we are starting all the paperwork, because it takes up to FIVE months to create documents, proof them, and record them all! Also, so many decisions to take into consideration...even down to our desire/no desire for cremation! Who knew?

It was amazing learning that we have done so many things correctly, but so many we have NOT! I'd advise you check with an attorney before your PWP cannot make his/her wishes known. It was an eye opener.

I hope this finds you all well. I read a great many posts. Glad to see comments by so many "old" acquaintances.

One thing I did find out...I visited several Facebook PD groups and there were quite a few caregivers who were sour and sad...depressing, actually. VERY judgmental at times when civility and kindness were all that was needed. Again, sad.

One thing about this site, even when we misinterpret or misunderstand each other, there is no acrimony. For that I am glad. I do hope you find answers and/or help here. I do. Jane

Jane, it is good to see your post today. Very helpful information. We took care of this early on, maybe 20 years ago. When I read your post, I realize you are making sure that others do not wait until incapacitation is an issue. We are headed in the right direction once again after one of those sneaky UTI's you get with a foley cath does it's damage. Picked up a case of the flu (mild due to the flu shot) but ended up in hospital with pneumonia for 5 day. Good care, but the rainy weather in SoCal took it's toll on me, and I ended up with pneumonia too, after repeated drenching. Oh spring....where are you?

For anyone who has a trust that was established before 2011, it may be worthwhile to have it reviewed by an attorney. Apparently there were some major changes to the laws regarding trusts in 2011, so trusts from before that time may need to be updated.

One thing that surprised me, was that if your POA for health care is 10+ years old, you need to update it, too! Odd, but true!
