Just wondering how everyone is handling the isolation and all that goes with being home so much during the last three months?

We have a few tense moments here and there, but we decided early on that staying home was best. We finally drove 35 miles to the south to see our grandson, but that was after 103 days seeing NO one!

California seems to be going backward, with daily cases over 13,000 in just 48 hours! We are anticipating being shutdown and quarantined again.

In these last months, we have cleaned, worked in the garden, taken Zoom classes, Carl’s had Zoom Rock Steady classes, and we have cooked and baked our hearts out! We are taking online watercolor classes, too.

What are any of you doing that is helping? FaceTiming our family, especially with our grandchildren is great, but, as our 10-year-old grandson said one day, “Are you doing anything today?....this is kinda boring, huh?” Sadly, it was! Lol

Any suggestions, other than binge watching and reading which we do daily would be appreciated!

We are doing OK but not great. I've been working from home and requested to extend that another month so I could be available to take my husband to some appointments, although I wasn't allowed to go in with him. Zoom meetings for me, Zoom Zumba for me. Hubby spends his time either putzing in the flower beds, mowing grass with the riding mower or laying in bed watching TV. To be honest I'm going bat shit crazy. We finally got see our kids and grandkids about a month ago. My husband is still afraid and paranoid to go out. I understand, but I'm so over this whole thing. Wearing face masks when I go out are just about doing me in. So hot and miserable. I think both of us are a bit depressed. It's very lonely. We did some facetiming too, and that helps a bit. I'm sick of binge watching. I try to take a walk everyday, but hubby can't do the walking. He uses a walker and has to take frequent rests just to get a few blocks in. I walk with him, then take my own walk by myself. Again, very lonely.

It is now July 1 and 19 counties have been told to pull back on opening some restaurants, businesses, bars, etc. for the next three weeks! Our fireworks show was cancelled today and everything is rapidly looking like another SIP (shelter in place).

This is becoming very difficult at best. I miss our kids, their spouses, and our granddaughter. Carl is an amazing man, because he is still able and willing to be our designated shopper, because I cannot go anywhere due to age and my diabetes. His trips out are limited, but he tells me they perk him up.

I hope the rest of you are doing well. While we support SIP and wearing masks (personally, they cause me to hyperventilate!), we WOULD love to see a vaccine before much longer. We are missing so much by “doing the right thing.”

We're hanging in there. I hesitated to respond because I feel guilty that we have it easier in many ways. We both still work full time and both in the office, so we've never had to change our daily routines much, and since our daughter lives with us we see her, too. It has been more difficult to see our son but as a young man of 23 he honestly would rather spend time with his friends than his parents, and we don't see him often anyway!

For me the biggest challenge of COVID has been one I didn't expect at all. Normally my work at the health department is with moms and babies, but most of us have been reassigned at least partly and I am on a team that provides guidance and technical support on COVID infection control to long term care facilities. I've spent a lot of time the last few months touring nursing homes, nursing hospitals and assisted living facilities and I've been more confronted with what lies ahead for us than I ever have. It makes me sad and it's hard to separate my feelings from my work. My hubby has continued to have new challenges and I worry how much longer he will be able to continue working.

I hope you all continue in good health and that we can all get back to normal soon.

I was just re-reading some of the responses about the pandemic and way back in Summer everyone was pretty over it so I was wondering how all of you are doing now. It is Dec 1st and the US is again in a pretty restricted state. Gonna be a LONG winter...especially for us, right? Is everyone holding up? I hate to see our little group of friends dwindling away. It’s such a great place to learn and it seems more intimate/personal than the other sites. I have trouble remembering everyone’s history. My hubby had PD for about 9 yrs., had DBS 3 yrs ago and went off his meds then. He just had a new battery put in & it is supposed to last 5 yrs this time. Next time it will be hard to get thru because he will be 74 then. It basically was a full surgery to get it replaced. Quite an ordeal for him but it went well.

So glad to hear your hubby's doing well, DaytoDay, we're hanging in there. Some days are better than others. It's really nice to communicate with others who are going through the same. Have a great day and like your signature, we'll manage DattoDay.

I was able to return to the office mid-July. We had our grandson for a week in early July so that was a refreshing diversion. I have been very diligent about maskwearing, washing hands and socially distancing myself. Regardless of my efforts I was in direct exposure a little over two weeks ago and had to quarantine. I was totally freaked out. My husband is high risk and I was so afraid I would get Covid and pass it to him. I tested negative, but still quarantined for 14 days. I'm just now returning to work and plan to by hyper vigilant through the holidays. Sick and tired of this whole thing doesn't begin to express how I feel. We plan to take the vaccine when it becomes available - what are others thoughts on the vaccine?

Yes. I will take the vaccine when it is available to me.

Let's hope the vaccine gets to us all soon. We both plan on getting it when we can.

Yes my hubby and I plan on getting the vaccine as soon as possible. We have to be super careful every single day in the meantime and it is getting OLD but all of us must stay strict in our everyday practices. Don’t get lax....cannot fool around w this as u guys all know. Just be super careful. My hubby also is at high risk due to the prostate cancer. Constantly battling TWO diseases is so exhausting but I know many people have it much worse than us so I am grateful for our small blessings. I’m so glad that battery replacement is done because now the hospitals are being overloaded. We were so glad to high tail it out of there and we haven’t had to return because surgery was a success (thank goodness). Still cannot believe that we are living thru a PANDEMIC on top of all the other things we (caregivers) have to deal with. Pretty amazing. Now that hubby is in probably the 10th or 11th year of PD, (not sure of real start point) seems to be developing more trouble with wanting to tip backward while standing and more trouble with speaking clearly later in the day. It’s so muffled that I have to ask him to repeat constantly. It’s so annoying. So happy he can sleep thru the night with no crazy dreams that he used to have. He is not on medication for PD and the dreams have gone away. He would sometimes get wild and even had to get bedrails for protection. Have to try to find happiness in each day...so important. I try to think good thoughts to stave off depression.

Best way to find Happiness for yourself is to spread JOY to others.. Bless you and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

By junipersage On 2020.12.23 20:11
I got the vaccine this past weekend. No problems other than a bit of a sore arm for a day. We will continue to mask, social distance etc. but I'm happy for the extra protection!
