So mom's caregiver during the day went on a week's vacation. The young woman they sent yesterday (as a substitute) was great. No problems. The woman they sent today was 65, bossy, sarcastic, and rubbed mom and me the wrong way for 45 minutes straight. The final straw was when she asked me if I had just started taking care of mom, and didn't I have any caregiver training? It takes a lot to get me angry, but it's been 17 years, somewhere around 45,000-50,000 hours of caring for mom. I told the woman I've been doing this for 17 years and she is being too confrontational with both mom and me. What do you mean? she asked. I listed several things she had just done. (She wanted mom to wear shoes it the house because she might slip in socks. She can't wear shoes in the house, has never worn shoes in the house, and she's never fallen from slipping once in the 200-300 times she's fallen over the years. She said mom's hair was terrible and needed cutting. She combed mom's hair without asking and then got mad when mom wanted a towel to put on her wet hair because it would mess up the combing. Every comment was sarcasm.) She reeled it all back when she saw how mad I was, and we smoothed it over for the rest of the day, but my nerves are shot. The caregivers are supposed to make life easier, not harder. And I know it wasn't because she was new because the woman yesterday was new also, but we had no problems at all. This one seemed like she was mad at someone else and taking it out on us.
